We kicked off the first of four events at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Friends of Heinz Refuge with the harvest of six deer by four new hunters. Each day, participants enjoyed a different venison-based meal starting with chili, followed by burgers and tacos. There was a definite sense of community. Participants brought in gifts to share, and many made plans to stay in touch after the hunt. Some even had the opportunity to learn the basics of brain-tanning deer hides during lunch.
