The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) partners with the National Deer Association (NDA) to introduce new people to hunting through Field to Fork programs. This hands-on experience guides participants from learning hunting skills to processing and cooking their own venison, promoting a deeper appreciation for conservation, wildlife management, and sustainable food sources. Together, ADCNR and NDA are helping more people discover the rewards of ethical hunting and the important role hunters play in conserving Alabama’s natural resources.

The Field to Fork Deer Hunting Event at Portland Landing SOA will take place November 8–9, 2025, with arrival at 8:00 a.m. at 4365 CR 225, Minter, AL. Lodging includes shared rooms with individual beds. Linens and all meals are provided. Participants must purchase an All Game Hunting License and Wildlife Management Area License at this link. All hunting gear, guns, ammo, and hunter orange are provided. Please do not bring your own weapons. Dress for the weather in dark or camo clothing, and bring essentials such as rain gear, proper footwear, and a 45-quart or larger cooler for game meat. The cost to educate a new hunter is approximately $200. Your registration fees allow us to continue this vital work of ensuring the future of conservation and ethical hunting practices.

Many of the greatest joys in my life have come amidst deer, deer hunters, and deer habitat, so my decision to support the National Deer Association is an easy one.
