The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) will be meeting this Tuesday, August 26th at 8:30AM to discuss proposed rules, including the abdication of their chronic wasting disease (CWD) authority. You can find the meeting agenda and additional information here.
The National Deer Association (NDA) has serious concerns about the TAHC no longer having regulatory authority over CWD and believes that the TAHC and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) should continue to have joint regulatory authority regarding CWD management and mitigation in the state.
We encourage you to attend the hearing on Tuesday and submit your own public comment urging the TAHC Commission to not adopt this proposed rule change.
It’s imperative the commission hear from hunters in order to protect the wild deer herd in the Lone Star state. CWD is a continued threat to wild deer and requires the TAHC to continue in its current regulatory capacity.
