The Missouri Governor’s 3rd Annual Mentored Deer Hunt is an opportunity for new hunters to learn how to harvest a deer from start to finish. Multiple events will happen simultaneously across the state during the special early antlerless firearms season that will occur October 10-12, 2025.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of hunting, practice shooting rifles, and how to process a harvested deer, before heading out into the field and attempting to harvest a deer with their mentor. In addition, participants will learn how hunting fits into conservation, hunting strategy, deer biology, hunting etiquette, shot placement, gun safety, and firearm handling. Preference will be given to applicants who have never been hunting, or those who have never harvested a deer.
Below are the anticipated counties for each clinic and/or hunt:
Audrain, Benton, Howell, Madison, Maries, Phelps, Pike, Putnam, Osage, and Shelby
Those interested must first register on the Missouri Department of Conservation website at Events | Missouri Department of Conservation. Once registered, users will be contacted to fill out an application. Selected applicants will need to purchase a Firearms Antlerless Deer Hunting Permit or a Firearms Any-Deer Hunting Permit. The Governor’s Mentored Deer Hunt is a joint effort between multiple agencies and non-profit organizations, including CFM, the Missouri Department of Conservation, National Deer Association, Missouri Hunting Heritage Federation, Kansas City Safari Club International, Pheasants and Quail Forever, Missouri Disabled Sportsmen, Missouri’s Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, Whitetails Unlimited, ALPS Outdoorz, Dead End Game Calls, MO Woods and Wildlife, and Missouri Back Country Hunters and Anglers, with the endorsement of the Missouri Governor.
