Increase Access and Hunting Opportunity in Delaware by Supporting HB 278

May 6, 2026 By: Catherine Appling-Pooler

The National Deer Association (NDA) supports Delaware House Bill 278 (HB278), a commonsense measure that would expand hunting opportunities on public lands by giving authority to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to authorize Sunday hunting for additional species. For the past decade, deer hunters in Delaware have been able to pursue wild deer on public lands, but that opportunity has not been extended to all other species. HB 278 would correct that imbalance and modernize the state’s approach to wildlife management.

Expanding Sunday hunting is a practical way to increase access for hunters who may be limited by work or family commitments during the week. It also provides wildlife managers with greater flexibility to meet population and habitat goals across a wider range of species. By opening additional days for responsible hunting, the state can better align conservation outcomes with the realities of today’s hunters.

Take Action

If passed, HB 278 would be a win for Delaware’s sportsmen and women and the long-term stewardship of its wildlife resources. Contact your legislator and urge them to vote “yes” on HB 278 to help protect and expand access to the state’s hunting heritage.
