Q: Where does the funding come from to support the program?
A: The funding comes from Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. Last year for the 2024 hunting season they received around $100,000 to be put towards processing donated deer. The funding is typically generated from hunters who donate online at when they purchase their tags or donate anytime of the year.
Q: Do hunters have to pay a fee to get the deer they are donating processed?
A: Hunters are not charged a processing fee. The processors receive reimbursement at $3.00 per pound for the donated deer.
Q: How many pounds of meat was donated throughout the entire state?
A: In 2024, 40, 500 pounds were donated throughout all of Montana.
Q: What are the options for donating to the Hunters Against Hunger program?
A: Two options for donating:
- Every time you buy your tags, click the check box that says “Donate to the Hunters Against Hunger Program”. This helps build funds for the grant and gets more donated deer processing fees covered.
- Donate a deer yourself! Grab an extra doe tag and extend your season to help fill the fridges of those in need.
